Sunburn is a burn to living tissue such as skin produced by overexposure to ultraviolet (UV) radiation, commonly from the sun’s rays. Even though most people do get sunburn, there are a lot of precautions you can take to prevent it.
- Take some mustard oil and rub it on the affected area. It serves as an excellent home remedy for sunburns.
- It’s a good idea to purchase a waterproof sunscreen and apply it liberally whether you think you’ll be going in the water or not.
- Avoid sun exposure between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. when the sun’s rays are strongest.
- Drink plenty of water to keep your skin, and the rest of your body, hydrated.
- Wear Sun Glasses, Hats And Tight Shirts.
- Take three small tomatoes and mash well. Add a cup of butter milk. Mix well and apply on skin. Allow to dry for one hour at least. This will help to reduce pain and take heat out of skin.
- Avoid wool or synthetics with sun-burn though you’ll be most comfortable with no clothing on the affected area.
- Examine your skin frequently for new skin growth or changes in existing moles, freckles, bumps and birthmarks

Thanks for all of the great tips! Our family really knows the importance of sunscreen and I am currently using one I do not like. I am searching for a natural and safe sunscreen without chemicals that is allergy free for our son. If we do happen to get a burn accidentally- we really love using the Topricinkids and Topricin (for adults) on it. It is a natural cream and not only helps soothe, but it actually helps repair the damage!
