According to Dr. Jenkins from the University of Toronto, previous studies have shown that various foods, such as nuts, soy protein, oat bran, and plant sterols all can have a cholesterol-lowering effect, and by combining all these foods together, we can have a much better diet. That’s what we name as ‘Portfolio Diet‘.
The guidelines that Portfolio Diet wants you to abide by are as follows:
- Increase the use of soy by substituting it with your routine food items, i.e. substitute soy foods for mea, drink soy milk instead of milk and substitute soy protein foods for other meats.
- Increase the use of sticky fiber.Use Oats and barley to replace other grains. Include eggplant and okra.
- Add plant sterol-enriched margarines, such as benecol in your diet. You can also go for plant sterols in capsule form as dietary supplements, but former one is a fair better option.
- Do have a handful of nuts every day.
