Generally, it is recommended that women wait about six weeks to start exercising after they have given birth; eight weeks if they have had a cesarean. However, some women can start exercising before this. When you decide to start an exercise program, discuss it with your health care provider first. There are also special postpartum exercise classes that you can join.

Walking is a good way to get back into exercising after delivery. Walking has the added advantage of getting both you and the baby out of the house for exercise and fresh air. Exercise can help you regain your shape. Losing your pregnancy weight is not the only benefit to exercising postpartum. Just as in your pregnancy, postnatal fitness can help ease a host of discomforts simply by increasing your circulation. Exercise can also help with any postpartum depression you might be experiencing.

After delivery you need to be active, as it is more important than ever because it helps raise metabolism, shed extra weight, provides much-needed energy and helps reduce stress and tension.
