Cardiac tamponade is the compression of the heart characterized by the accumulation of fluid in the pericardium (the sac surrounding the heart). This fluid buildup puts pressure on the heart, making it difficult for the ventricles of the heart to fill with blood and resulting in cardiac tamponade. Cardiac tamponade is a medical emergency. Cardiac tamponade occurs in approximately 2 out of 10,000 people. The overall risk of death depends on the speed of diagnosis, the treatment provided, and the underlying cause of the tamponade.

Cardiac tamponade may be caused by any of the following:

Effusions caused by tumors often lead to tamponade, eliciting bleeding in the pericardium. Blood accumulates more rapidly than a transudate and more commonly causes tamponade.

Pericarditis, an inflammation of the pericardium, may cause fluid and cardiac tamponade.

Radiation or drug therapies can cause cardiac tamponade.

Cancers in or near the heart can leak fluid into the pericardium and cause cardiac tamponade. Tamponade is more common in patients with malignant pericarditis.

Heart catheterization and invasive surgery, including open-heart surgery and recent heart attack can lead to cardiac tamponade.

Cardiac tamponade can be caused due to viral or bacterial infection.

A heart attack usually happens when a blood clot develops in one of the blood vessels that lead to the heart muscle (coronary arteries). A heart attack occurs if the clot becomes large enough to cut off most or all of the blood flow through the artery. The blocked blood flow prevents oxygen-rich blood from reaching the part of the heart muscle fed by the artery. The lack of oxygen damages the heart muscle.

Causes of Heart Attack in Men are following:

People who smoke regularly have a much higher risk of heart attack as compared to people who never smoked.

Emotional stress or pain can lead to heart attack.

If a person’s blood cholesterol level is high, then he is at a higher risk of developing blood clots in the arteries. Blood clots can block the supply of blood to the heart muscle which causes a heart attack.

A person eating high fats is at greater risk of having heart attack.

Age is considered to be the greatest risk factor of having heart attack. When a man is over 45 years of age, then his risk of having a heart attack starts to rise significantly.

People with diabetes have a higher risk of developing heart attack.

People with high blood pressure can also become the victim of heart attack.

Overweight can also contribute to heart failure.

Patients who have had heart surgery have a higher risk of having a heart attack.

A heart attack is the death of heart muscle from the sudden blockage of a coronary artery by a blood clot. A blockage in the heart’s arteries may reduce or completely cut off the blood supply to a portion of the heart. This can cause a blood clot to form and totally stop blood flow in a coronary artery, resulting in a heart attack.

Women develop heart problems about seven to eight years later than men. By age 75, cardiovascular disease is more common among women than men. Although it can affect women of all ages Furthermore, diagnosing heart attacks can be more difficult in women than men because women tend to have less “typical” symptoms.

A number of risk factors which increase a woman’s chance of developing coronary artery disease (CAD) and having a heart attack are following:

Between ages 55 and 74, high blood pressure (hypertension) is slightly more common among women. And uncontrollable high blood pressure is a major risk factor of getting heart attack.

A regular smoking habit greatly increases the risk of damage to the coronary arteries (more so in women) and dying from heart attack.

Obesity is another leading cause of contributing to heart disease. Obese women are much more likely to die from a heart attack than those who are not.

Total cholesterol levels should be less than 200. High cholesterol levels in women also lead to heart attack.

Family history of heart disease. Women, like men, are more likely to develop heart disease if heart disease runs in their family.

According to the American Heart Association, diabetic women are twice as likely to suffer from heart disease as non-diabetic women. Similarly the impact of diabetes on stroke risk is greater for women than men.

In this modern world most of the death are caused by heart diseases. Major risk factors for coronary heart disease include cigarette smoking, hypertension, high blood cholesterol, dyslipidemia, obesity, sedentary lifestyle, poor eating habits and most important thing is lack of exercises.

We know that physical inactivity is the leading controllable cause of heart diseases and

physical activity lowered the incidence of death and hospitalization that are induced by heart failure. In order to remain fit we should have to do exercises like walking, jogging swimming etc.

Walking is also considering the best exercise for the heart patients. Walking programs can be very effective in helping people get into shape, improve their cardiovascular fitness levels. Walking can reduce heart disease risks and stroke. Taking three or four short brisk walks throughout the day can reduce blood pressure and help with weight control, especially in the important mid-body region, where experts say excess weight is especially dangerous. Regular walking can also help you to reduce your risk of coronary heart disease. Walking not only strengthens your heart but it also reduces the risk of developing diabetes.
